Case Study – BUR Media

Background: BUR Media Group are an Anglo-Russian distribution group, and manage theatrical and DVD film distribution for Sony Pictures and Buena Vista. They also built, own and operate Moscow’s first IMAX cinema.
Brief BUR needed a market analysis on potential digital channels/routes to consumers in Russia and the CIS. They needed to provide promotional and merchandising support for their theatrical and DVD releases. In addition it was becoming critical for BUR to identify and begin to exploit new distribution channels to consumers.
Solution: Due to the fragmented nature of digital markets, and the low penetration of fixed line telecommunications, mobile distribution was selected as the most viable distribution channel. A full market analysis and a business case was developed. BUR decided to proceed with the report recommendations and as a result a workflow was evolved to incorporate mobile distribution, marketing opportunities and the differing requirements and formats of mobile content into BUR’s existing operational setup. A suitable mobile content partner was selected, to provide transactional facilities and integration into the Russian mobile networks.
Result: BUR launched mobile assets, including games, trailers and other promotional material across all major Russian mobile networks. They significantly increased distribution revenues.
